Frequently Asked Questions
Have people with Parkinson's tried your pen set and provided feedback?
Yes, over 110 individuals with Parkinson's have tested our pen set, with 88% preferring it over the generic alternatives for its efficacy and ease of use. We continuously incorporate user feedback into our design improvements, ensuring our product meets the needs of those it serves.
Do you have variations of your pen set, such as varied weights or magnet strengths?
While we currently offer one model, future variations may include options like varied weights or magnet strengths. Our initial focus has been on delivering a quality product to market efficiently, but we aim to expand our offerings in the future.
Can I buy just one component (i.e. just the pen or just the clipboard) of your set?
Each component in our set is essential to its overall functionality, especially the patented magnetic alignment between the pen and clipboard, which helps stabilize against tremors. Therefore, at this time, we offer the set as a complete unit only. However, if you need to replace a lost or broken part from a previously purchased set, please reach out to us, and we’ll work with you to make suitable arrangements.
What if I want to test the pen set before buying?
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a trial period or accept returns for the SteadyScrib pen. This policy ensures that every pen we provide is fresh and unused, maintaining the highest standards of quality and hygiene for all our customers.
The best way to try the SteadyScrib pen is to encourage your occupational therapist (OT), physical therapist (PT), or doctor to purchase it for their clinic or community program. Many healthcare professionals are willing to acquire tools like SteadyScrib to enhance accessibility for their patients. Once they have it, you and others in the community can try the pen before making your own purchase.
What happens if part of the set breaks, someone loses part of the set, or the ink runs out in the pen set?
We’ve designed our pen with quality as a top priority, but we understand that accidents can happen. If a part of your pen breaks or the ink runs out, please visit the Contact Us section on our website and submit an inquiry. We’ll reach out promptly to guide you through the next steps and discuss replacing any necessary parts.
Additionally, due to the high demand from the Parkinson's community to bring our innovative product to market quickly, we are currently operating on a refill-as-needed system. While we're actively working on a more accessible refill mechanism for future versions, for now, we'll handle refills through this system.
Are you involved in the Parkinson's community?
Absolutely, community engagement is integral to our mission. We've dedicated significant time and resources to volunteering, donating sets to medical institutions, and establishing the Opportunity Fund. Our product development is deeply rooted in user feedback, with over 110 individuals with Parkinson's contributing to our design iterations.
Additionally, we donate 1% of sales back to the Parkinson's community to further support research and resources.
What is the Opportunity Fund, and how do I apply?
At SteadyScrib, we are dedicated to making our innovative writing utensils accessible to all individuals affected by Parkinson's disease, regardless of financial constraints. Through our Opportunity Fund, we provide sets at a reduced or no cost based on demonstrated financial need.
To apply for financial assistance, please visit the Contact Us section on our website, fill out the form, and select Opportunity Fund as the category for your submission. Additionally, if you’d like to support the Opportunity Fund, please visit our Donate page.
Is the SteadyScrib pen set created just for people with Parkinson's?
While our pen set is specifically tailored for individuals with Parkinson's to counteract writing inhibitive symptoms, we've received positive feedback from those with conditions like multiple sclerosis, essential tremor, and Huntington's disease. Future iterations may address the needs of broader populations.
What is the small red nib on the tip of my pen?
The small red nib is a protective cover designed to keep the pen tip fresh and clean before first use. Please remove the small red nib from the pen tip before writing. Simply pull it off gently, and your SteadyScrib pen will be ready to use.
Why did you price your set the way that you did?
Quality and manufacturing in the U.S. influence our costs, alongside feedback from stakeholders indicating the value of our product and positioning ourselves amongst existing technology within the quality of life innovations market all informed our pricing strategy. Please apply to our Opportunity Fund on the Contact Us page if our full-price product is inaccessible.
What's the magnetic strength of the pen, and is it safe to use if I've had DBS?
Our pen has a magnetic strength of 482 mT without magnetic paper fasteners, increasing to 502 mT with fasteners. While our product is generally safe, if you've had Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), we recommend consulting your healthcare provider before use to ensure compatibility with your specific medical history and needs. Your safety and comfort are paramount to us.
